The first "When Worlds Collide" party was originated by the Boston Star Trek Association (BSTA) in 1990 to promote inter-club socializing in the Boston area. It was held 2 November 1990 at the VFW Post 1105, 295 Arsenal Street, Watertown, MA 02172. The original sponsors were the Boston Star Trek Association, the Boston Japanimation Society, Starfleet, and NESFA. These were joined by Arisia and other clubs.

The second party was held at the BASH 13, 24-26 January 1992 at the Sheraton Tara in Braintree, MA hosted by the Boston Star Trek Association.

The next party was held Friday 14 February 1992 in the King Edward room of the Sheraton in Springfield, MA. This was hosted by NESFA.

Since that time, parties by this name have been held at various New England regional conventions and at the World Science Fiction Conventions.

Held 5 November 1994 at Jacob Jones V.F.W. Post, Dedham, MA (moved from 29 October 1994 at Day's Inn, Newton, MA). Sponsored by the Boston Star Trek Association.
