coverThe Billion Dollar Boy

by Charles Sheffield

A book review by Mark L. Olson

Starscape 1997, $5.99, 254 pp

I missed this YA book (though aimed at a much older YA than the Alexander piece) when it came out. (I wonder what else Tor's brought out in the Starscape line?)

The basic plot is fairly standard: bored rich kid is thrown into an adventure where he has to act on his own and finds he can and not only that but he likes it.

The world is enjoyable, but not terribly clever or detailed. The people are rather well done, (even if the boy's mother couldn't really be such a dolt and still remember to breathe....)

This is not great SF, but is a quick enjoyable read.
