The Authors

[Damon Knight photo]Damon Knight was born in Baker, Oregon on September 19, 1922. He moved to New York City after completing high school and published his first SF story in 1941. He soon became known as a writer and a critic. He was one of the founders of the Milford SF Writers Conference and has continued to play a major role in the Clarion workshop series, an outgrowth of Milford. He founded the Science Fiction Writers of America and was editor of Orbit, the original anthology series that dominated the Nebula Awards in the late sixties. Damon and his wife, Kate Wilhelm, were Guests of Honor at the 1980 World Science Fiction Convention, Noreascon Two. He died in 2002.


[Kate Wilhelm photo] Kate Wilhelm was born Katie Gertrude Meredith in Toledo, Ohio on June 8, 1928. She is the author of more than thirty novels including the Hugo Award-winning Where Late the Sweet Birds Sang and The Unbidden Truth. Her work has been adapted for TV and film and translated into twenty languages. She has been awarded the Prix Apollo, Kurd Lasswitz, Hugo, Nebula, and Locus Awards. In 2003, she was inducted into the Science Fiction Hall of Fame. Her short fiction appeared in landmark anthologies such as Again Dangerous Visions, Orbit, The Penguin Book of Modern Fantasy by Women, and The Norton Book of Science Fiction. Kate Wilhelm established the Clarion Workshop along with her husband Damon Knight and writer Robin Scott Wilson. Kate and Damon lived in Eugene, Oregon, until his death in 2002. She remained there until her own death on March 8, 2018.
