Getting Published and Other Frequently Asked Questions

NESFA Press does not accept unsolicited submissions

NESFA Press publishes books by the guest of honor at selected conventions — usually Boskone and occasionally the Worldcon. We also publish classic science fiction that typically would not otherwise be in print and occasionally reference books of science fiction and science fiction fandom. That’s it. So the only way to be published by NESFA Press is to be a classic science fiction writer and/or the guest of honor at a specific convention. (Sidenote: we also do not accept requests to be invited to be the guest of honor at any convention.)

Please do not send us your resume, we do not hire

We are a non-profit, volunteer-run organization. We do not pay our editors, proofreaders, etc. not even with copies of the books we work on. It’s a standing club joke that the more work you do on a book, the more it’s likely to cost you — the book’s editor has chosen to buy the original of the cover art on more than one occasion.

Regarding cover art

We pay a very modest amount for cover art. The artists who work with us are typically the Official Artist for that year’s Boskone or they are commercial artists who adore the classic sf we publish and want to support our work by creating book covers for those classics. Trust us: they’re not doing it for the money.

For consideration for artwork, please mail samples to NESFA Press, PO Box 809, Framingham, MA 01701, or email a URL to Emails with attachments may be deleted unopened.
